Damping Ratio of Sand Containing Fine Particles in Cyclic Triaxial Liquefaction Tests

چکیده
Sand liquefaction triggered by earthquakes is a devastating geological disaster and has emerged as an engaging topic in earthquake engineering. With enhanced understanding of pure sand promoted laboratory research, there growing concern, following filed investigations, over the influence fine particles on potential containing inclusions. Efforts have been devoted to clarifying significance certain physical indicators (e.g., plasticity index, particle shape gradation characteristics), fruitful conclusions can be found published literature. However, relationship between content cyclic degradation process seems still unclear. To fill this knowledge gap, three sets triaxial tests were performed various sand–fines mixtures with dry tamping method. The experimental results revealed that (i) provided negative contribution global soil structure; (ii) however, damping ratio measured from obtained stress–strain loops manifested its independence fines during degradation. In paper, we propose shearing mechanism microscopic scale explain above contrasting observations. For given fabric, around sand-to-sand contact points probably break strong force chains, intensifying threat liquefaction. By contrast, these play same role favouring relative sliding grains both loading unloading stages. As maximum stored energy loss per cycle are amplified scaling factor, ratio, defined them, should display macroscopic invariance tests.

The effect of nano-Kaolinite on liquefaction resistance of liquefiable sand
This study is an attempt to investigate the effect of the nano-kaolinite concentration on the liquefaction resistance of liquefiable sand from Gorgan city of Iran. To examine the influence of the nano-kaolinite concentration on the liquefaction resistance of nano-kaolinite-sand mixtures, three different nano-kaolinite concentrations: 3%, 6% and 9% were prepared. Cyclic triaxial tests were condu...

متن کاملInvestigation of Liquefaction Mechanism in Double Sand Lenses
In many cases of heavy earthquakes, liquefaction has resulted in serious damages. Existing anisotropy in soil layers results in some difficulties to realize the reason for these phenomena. Loose sand lenses buried in fine soils are one of the cases which may result in these problems and as a weak point during the earthquake can cause this phenomenon. In this paper, using FLAC 2D software, doub...
